OQTA is a private sector membership based organisation. Members include accommodation providers, attractions businesses, tours and cruises, hospitality outlets, sporting facilities, meetings facilities and many other tourism-related businesses as well as Local Government Authorities. OQTA has a Board of private sector industry stakeholder directors and representatives of the Regional Development Organisations in Western Queensland. OQTA strongly believes that their board have the exceptional business and marketing skills to guide a strategy to benefit and grow the region’s tourism industry results.
(A) To encourage more visitors to the area of the Association’s operation and to encourage longer stays by such visitors.
(B) To advise, where appropriate, on tourism planning and activity within the Region.
(C) To liaise with and assist commercial organisations, community bodies and individuals involved in any way with tourism in and to the Region.
(D) To promote existing tourism product and to identify and promote the development of appropriate product in the region.
(E) To encourage residents within the Region to appreciate the benefits of tourism within the Region as a whole and to them as individuals.
(F) To educate residents of the Region to understand the history, attractions and tourist potential of the Region so that they may be able more effectively to promote the Region to visitors.
(G) To promote or assist or encourage the training of employers and employees so that they may be enabled to provide better and more efficient service to tourists and other visitors.
(H) To raise finance from all possible sources and by all possible lawful means to enable the Association to achieve its aims and objects.
(I) To represent the region in any discussions with Government or any other authorities to assist in planning, developing and promoting the region and to protect the interests of the region.
