The board of directors for Qantas, Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) and Outback Queensland Tourism Association (OQTA) will hold their respective meetings in Longreach on 22 April, during a milestone week.
Representatives who will be in Longreach include Alan Joyce, CEO Qantas; Leanne Coddington, CEO TEQ; Daniel Gschwind, CEO Queensland Tourism Industry Council; and Andrew Martin, Chair OQTA.
Denise Brown, OQTA CEO, said the coming week was a watershed moment for Outback Queensland tourism, with the three boards and other planned events signifying how far the region has come – to now sit firmly where it belongs, at the table as a leading Australian tourism destination.
“The calibre of Australia’s tourism leaders who will be in Longreach this week reflects our growing reputation as a destination of choice, and is underpinned by an absolute world-class offering,” Ms Brown said.
“We know that tourism is incredibly important in our region, supporting around 4,600 jobs, generating $467.4 million for the local economy while boosting community well-being.”
“Never before have we had this phenomenal amount of leadership and expertise on our patch, and we are ready to make the most of this moment for the benefit of Outback Queensland,” she said.
Following cancellations due to COVID-19 last year, Qantas will be hosting its centenary celebrations as part of its schedule while in town.
“Qantas is the jewel in the crown of our Outback story recognised across the globe. It is fantastic that we are able to mark 100 years of our flagship carrier right here in the heart of Outback Queensland,” Ms Brown said.
“We are looking forward to a networking function that will be hosted by Qantas in collaboration with TEQ as part of the busy schedule.
“Our meetings along with the function will provide a great platform to showcase new and refreshed product and enhance our relationships with some of Australian tourism’s top players.
“We will be making sure that our important visitors take away more than great experiences. Our message is that we are the region to get behind – look at us now despite massive challenges with drought and COVID-19, imagine what is possible! Jump on board and just watch us go!”
