No drought of visitors to Outback Queensland; NVS reveals Visitor Expenditure in Outback Queensland shows no sign of slowing down

Outback Queensland saw a 15% year-on-year increase in regional expenditure according to the latest National Visitor Survey (NVS), outperforming the growth rates of Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

Across the period June 2017 to June 2018, Outback Queensland visitor nights rose from 3,514 to 4,736, with the additional 1,222 extra visitor nights spiking regional expenditure by 15 percent.

General Manager of Outback Queensland Tourism Association (OQTA), Peter Homan, is proud of the region’s visitor growth and spend.

“It’s great to see more overnight visitors, and in turn more expenditure across the region.”

“It’s even more exciting to see such steady streams of visitors during such trying times with drought. Our businesses need all the visitor support they can get in these tough times.”

“We encourage all visitors to take their time when exploring the outback. After all, it’s such a remote place with plenty of one-of-a-kind experiences waiting to be discovered.”

“The NVS stats show just how important tourism is to the Outback Queensland economy” Homan said.
