Outback Queensland collected three silver awards at this year’s Australian Tourism Awards over the weekend, placing in three out of four eligible categories.
The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo took out second place for the Festival and Events category and Cobbold Gorge picked up in the Hosted Accommodation section.
Fun over Fifty, a tour operator with six out of its 10 Queensland tours venturing through the outback, received silver for the tours and transport category.
Along with Outback Pioneers, the three also took home gold at the 2017 Queensland Tourism Awards last November, winning their eligibility as a finalist for the national award.
Taking up four spots of the 25 Queensland finalists at the awards, the operators pointed national attention towards Outback Queensland.
General Manager of the Outback Queensland Tourism Association, Peter Homan, is excited to share the weekend’s results.
“The Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo shows the rest of Australia that Outback Queensland offers national-standard events with experiences that should not be missed.”
“They can arrive in region with a nationally recognised tour operator as well as stay at nationally-acclaimed accommodation.”
“I’m extremely proud of all four of the Outback Queensland finalists. They have helped to cement the region as a top tourism destination with quality operators and experiences” Homan said.
The Australian Tourism Awards celebrates the leading tourism operators, shining a national spotlight on their hard work, contribution to the industry and economy, innovation, and dedication to providing world-class experiences.
