About Central West Region

There’s lots to love about the heart of the Outback.

Outback Queensland’s central west wears its history on its sleeve, proudly the birthplace of Qantas, Waltzing Matilda and Australia’s Labor Party.

Pioneering history is at its core of the central west and you can explore it by galloping horse-drawn stagecoach, sunset river cruises and live performances at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame.

For history that predates early settlers, the world’s largest collection of Australia dinosaur fossils can be found at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum in Winton.

One of the most iconic movie sayings and one of the most iconic pubs in Outback Queensland.

A true blue Australian pub established in the 1900's, the Walkabout Creek Hotel, was made famous when Paul Hogan swaggered up to the bar as Mick Dundee in Crocodile Dundee.

Inside the pub you'll find plenty of memorabilia to bring back those movie memories.
Plus you are assured of a hearty pub meal, a cold beer (or two), or you can stay the night in their caravan park or in one their single rooms.

Instagram post 17921206136148664 The Burke and Wills ‘Dig Tree' is one of Australia's national icons and an enduring reminder of our pioneering spirit.

Nappa Merrie Station is proud to officially manage the site on behalf of The Royal Historical Society of Queensland.

Located on the Northern bank of Coopers Creek the ‘Dig Tree' is a Coolibah (Eucalyptus microtha). It is believed that the tree is 200-250 years old.

There is a conservation fee of $20 per vehicle or $60 per bus to visit the Dig Tree Reserve. If you are planning a visit to the Dig Tree, you can pre-pay the conservation fee on https://tinyurl.com/DigTreeFee

You can find more information about the Dig Tree here http://www.thedigtree.com.au/
