Halfway between Quilpie and Eromanga on the South West Outback Adventure Drive, Toogunna Plains Farmstay is a brand-new outback stay on a fifth-generation sheep and cattle station. With 18 stylish ensuite cabins, it’s a great base for groups, families and self-drive travellers, and even has its own airstrip for charter flight access.
Each cabin has air conditioning, modern bathrooms and views across the wide open plains. Bedding setups suit singles, couples, twins and families. Independent guests can tuck into an included breakfast in the rustic Bush Kitchen or enjoy a self-cook BBQ pack. Group tour guests can savour delicious paddock-to-plate dinners under the stars or around the fire pit.
Jump on a three-hour station tour to see old homesteads, shearing sheds, oil wells and the day-to-day workings of life on the land, with fresh baked smoko along the way. At sunset, head to the nearby red sandhills for drinks and a cheese platter as the colours of the Channel Country put on a show.
It’s an easy 20-minute drive to the Eromanga Natural History Museum—home to Australia’s largest dinosaur and some fascinating fossil discoveries.
Evenings are all about sitting around the firepit under the stars, swapping stories and soaking up the quiet magic of the outback.
