Outback Queensland can be accessed by air, rail and road. Once you arrive, the well maintained highways and roads (mostly sealed) that connect the towns make travelling through the region easier than most would think.

You’re never far from a cold drink and a friendly face while on the road in Outback Queensland. For those that want to 4WD on the road less travelled, take an alternative route between towns and follow the nature tracks and little used back roads to explore this remarkable part of Australia.

Travel Distances

Here in Outback Queensland, you’ll swap busy for bliss. Long, vast stretches of amazing landscapes await and at times, it might feel like you are the only person on Earth, but you’ll never be too far away from the next town.  On main routes, you will usually pass through a town every couple of hours. Just be sure to plan head using our Travel Distance tables and ensure you know where the next servo, general store or pharmacy is.

Please be mindful when travelling in Outback Queensland that it is different to driving along the coastline. While we guarantee beautiful scenery and memorable moments along your journey, road hazards such as livestock, long distances and flat terrain take some getting used to.
