Meet the Legend of Jack Howe

Shamrock Street, Blackall, QLD

Standing proudly in the heart of Blackall, the Jack Howe Statue honours one of Australia’s greatest shearers and celebrates the region’s deep connection to the wool industry.

In 1892, Jack Howe set a world record by shearing 321 sheep in seven hours and 40 minutes using blade shears — an achievement that became legendary across Australia and helped cement Blackall’s place in the nation’s pastoral history.

Today, visitors can stop by the statue, learn about the man behind the record, and discover how wool, shearing and station life helped shape the character of Outback Queensland.

Whether you’re exploring Blackall’s heritage attractions or following the region’s wool story, the Jack Howe Statue is a must-see stop and a reminder of the people whose hard work built the Outback.
