Step back in time at Leahy Historical House in Thargomindah! Built around 1885 from locally made Bulloo River mud bricks, this historic home offers a fascinating glimpse into outback life during the 1890’s. Once owned by the legendary cattle king Sir Sydney Kidman and lived in by his manager “Galloping Jack” Watts, it is now a preserved museum open to the public daily with free entry.

Constructed around 1885 using local Bulloo River mud bricks, the house carries a storied past – from its origin with the Thargomindah Newspaper Company to its purchase in the early 1900’s by Sir Sydney Kidman owned the property, it served as home to his head manager Jack “Galloping Jack” Watts, a colourful local character and Councillor known for refusing any transport other than his horse, which he always rode flat out.

Carefully preserved by the Thargomindah Historical Society and the Bulloo Shire Council, Leahy House now operates as a town museum. Explore authentic late 19th century architecture and artifacts to experience what life was like for early outback pioneers.
