William the Hairy-Nosed Wombat Statue

William the Wombat made his home in Thallon in 2017, this giant sculpture of a Northern Hairy-nosed wombat celebrates the town’s historical connection to the species. William is 3.5 m long and 2 m high with rock climbing niches, creating lots of fun.
Interpretative signage located behind William allows you to learn about this critically endangered species, with just over 400 left on earth they are one of the rarest animals on the planet. William is much loved by locals and visitors alike and has become a favourite photo opportunity.
After you have met William, take a break in Thallon’s shady Park—complete with a playground, picnic tables, free barbecues, phone chargers and the striking granite ‘Anzac Digger’ war memorial. With its blend of art, history, and small-town charm, Thallon’s Park is the perfect stopover spot.
