Opalton Bush Park is good to go…….Winton Shire council began roadworks on the 10th April so no trouble getting there. It is 126 kilometres of dirt road, so please drive to conditions.
After a big rain event, there is always some new opal washed up, so come on out for some extra special noodling.
No need to book, as we have tons of room to camp. Lots of wide-open space, some undercover sites, three rustic huts, barbeque facilities, toilets, showers (hot water via a donkey), tank water, mobile phone coverage, friendly local miners and of course, a huge area to noodle for opal in the designated fossicking area, it’s great fun.
A small shop caters for basics including bread, milk, ice, drinks and snacks.
The bird life has gone crazy after the rain. So many grubs and all the waterholes filled…. it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Seven kilometres of walking tracks recently installed takes you to historic sites around the area including a lookout, historic cemetery and township.
There is a beautiful dam to sit and watch the wildlife or take a swim on those hot days.
Opalton is a great place to enjoy the outback, see some colour, have a great campfire and talk to locals.
