Royston Station is a working cattle and goat property in the heart of Outback Queensland — a peaceful escape where guests can unwind and enjoy the beauty of the bush.
The station features three clean and comfortable rustic cottages, each with cooking facilities and modern amenities, accommodating between two and four guests. Every cottage overlooks a small dam affectionately known as the “baby lake” complete with a jetty.
Birdlife is plentiful, with around eighty species identified across the property by visiting birdwatchers.
A highlight of Royston is the elevated artesian “turkeys nest” swimming hole, offering naturally warm water year-round. With wide outback views, it’s the perfect place for a picnic, barbecue, sunset drinks, and unforgettable stargazing.
When available, guests can join a property tour with station owner Peter Whip to learn about station life, environmental management, and see the artesian bore, cattle yards, Wagyu cattle, and goats.
Royston Station is located just a 45-minute drive southwest of Longreach along the main highway.

Butler Cottage
Butler Cottage was originally built as station hand accommodation and overlooks a small lake with a jetty — an ideal spot to enjoy birdlife, sunsets, and clear outback night skies.
Blending rustic charm with modern comforts, the cottage includes air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, outdoor BBQ, and fresh linen and towels.
The cottage features a front verandah, a main bedroom with a double bed, a second bedroom with a single bed and pull-out trundle, plus a lounge and dining area with a double sofa bed. Butler Cottage accommodates up to four guests and is well suited to families.

Wellshot Cottage is set in a secluded location overlooking a small lake with a jetty — an ideal spot to enjoy birdlife, sunsets, and clear outback skies.
The cottage blends rustic charm with simple modern comforts, including fresh linen and towels, a portable air conditioner, kitchenette, private bathroom, and a rustic outdoor shower heated by a wood-fired 'donkey.'
Wellshot Cottage features an open-plan layout with a queen bed, a front verandah with BBQ and accommodates up to two guests.
