Visitor expenditure is at an all-time high in Outback Queensland at $713.2 million according to the latest National Visitor Survey (NVS), a 10.3% year-on-year increase.
Across the period June 2018 to June 2019, Outback Queensland visitor nights spiked by 23.6% year-on-year to a record total of 5.8 million nights, leading to the record-breaking visitor expenditure.
1.1 million domestic visitors were recorded to have made their way to Queensland Outback, a major highlight amongst the data for Queensland.
Newly appointment CEO of Outback Queensland Tourism Association (OQTA), Denise Brown, is proud of the region’s visitor growth.
“It’s great to see this continual growth of overnight visitors, and in turn more expenditure across the region.”
“The region has experienced tough times over the last year with continuing drought and devastating flooding, so our businesses need all the visitor support they can get.”
“We encourage all visitors to take their time when exploring the outback. After all, it’s such a remote place with plenty of one-of-a-kind experiences waiting to be discovered.”
“The NVS shows just how important tourism is to the Outback Queensland economy, demonstrating the success of the Palaszczuk Government’s tourism strategy and OQTA’s strong partnership with Tourism and Events Queensland to market the region.”
“OQTA thank the Queensland State Government for their continual support of the region through the Outback Tourism Infrastructure Program and Year of Outback Tourism Events Program. ” Brown said.
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk declared 2019 as The Year of Outback Tourism in December 2018.
