Outback Stays Beyond the Ordinary

There’s something undeniably special about being invited through the gates of a working station and offered rare and exclusive access to some of Outback Queensland’s most spectacular and ancient landscapes.

Step into some of Outback Queensland’s most soul-stirring properties that offer far more than just a place to sleep. Here, you’ll be given the grounding opportunity to discover spectacular landscapes, dine atop ancient mesas, champagne-toast a sunset amongst soaring red sandhills and take a private tour of soaring sandstone cliffs adorned with ancient Aboriginal artworks.

This is your invitation to Outback Queensland’s most unforgettable station stays.

Wallaroo Retreat

At Wallaroo Retreat, guests can combine a glamping stay with exclusive access to one of Queensland’s lesser-known ancient worlds through an eco-certified Boobook Explore experience.

The Lost Carnarvons Tour takes travellers deep into the Carnarvon Ranges, where towering sandstone landscapes, Aboriginal rock art and spectacular vistas reveal a side of the Outback few visitors ever get to see.

Toogunna Plains

Tucked between Quilpie and Eromanga, Toogunna Plains is a fifth-generation cattle and sheep station offering 18 stylish, ensuited cabins.

Guests can see the daily workings of this working property and enjoy freshly baked smoko along the way, offering a genuine taste of station life.

One of the most memorable experiences is Toogunna’s sunset sandhills tour. Head out into the Channel Country as the day fades, then settle in with bubbles and a cheese platter while the sun paints the vast Outback landscape in gold.

Rangelands Outback Camp

Perched on a jump-up, or mesa, Rangelands Outback delivers ultra-luxe glamping at its very best.

Just 15 minutes from Winton, the camp accommodates only 12 supremely pampered guests at a time across six generously sized tents, each with king-sized beds, air conditioning, designer touches and even a shower with a view.

Here, the experience goes well beyond the tent. Guests can dine on chef-prepared menus inspired by Outback culture and flavours, enjoy fine wines and choose from a range of group tours and helicopter flights exploring ancient landscapes, dinosaur attractions, Outback stations and opal mines.

Have a caravan? These station stays are a great place to unhitch.

Charlotte Plains

Located just a short drive from Cunnamulla, Charlotte Plains sheep station has become a cult favourite with travellers due to its steaming artesian waters and outdoor bathing experiences. Guests can take a station tour, enjoy a spot of birdwatching or explore the kilometres of walking trails that cross the property before slipping into an outdoor bath at sunset.

The Lake Quilpie

Just 4km from the charming town of Quilpie, The Lake is a stunning location nestled around Lake Houdraman. Swim, fish or ride around the lake, enjoy a spot of yabbying or birdwatching, take a private station tour, pick mulberries or chat with other guests at the onsite bar, which opens after 5pm. A highlight of a trip to The Lake is its onsite artesian bathhouse (additional charges apply).

Dunblane

Experience life on a working sheep farm at Dunblane, a 40,000-acre property located near Barcaldine. This station stay is as authentic as they come. Visitors can camp along the riverbank, spot wildlife at dusk, cook around a campfire or soak in the Outback atmosphere, quite literally, in an open-air artesian tub.

Lara Wetlands

Just 28 kilometres south of Barcaldine, this 15,000-acre property is home to wildlife-rich wetlands and offers pure serenity. Set up along the water’s edge amongst paperbarks and take in a stunning sunset framed by your unspoiled natural surrounds.

There’s also a thermal artesian pool, kayaks, bicycles, a cubby house and a seven-hole mini golf course, making it a great option for families.

Royston Station

Set across 40,000 acres near Longreach, Royston Station is a working property where guests get the rare opportunity to experience life on the land from the inside. Camp or stay in a rustic cottage or the Shearers’ Quarters. Take a station tour or swim in the station’s artesian swimming hole, a highlight of the property.
