Charleville’s skies will roar to life in September
Eight remarkable aircraft. Forty years of restoration. One unforgettable Outback weekend.
This September, head west and swap the city hustle for wide-open skies at Wings on the Warrego in Charleville.
Historic warbirds will thunder over Charleville from 11 – 13 September, 2026. Get up close to vintage aircraft, meet the pilots, hear the stories behind the machines and, if you’re feeling adventurous, take to the skies yourself on a joy flight.
The Boomerang is back
The weekend’s star is the CAC Boomerang A46-54, an Australian-designed WWII fighter that last flew in 1945.
After being destined for scrap, it has spent 40 years being painstakingly restored. Now, it’s returning to the skies for a rare appearance in Charleville.
The Boomerang will be joined by an impressive collection of warbirds and vintage aircraft, including a Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk, Boeing Stearman, North American Texan, T-28D Trojans and MK26B Spitfire.
Expect flyovers, aircraft displays, joy flights, pilot meet-and-greets, classic cars, family entertainment and plenty of food.
Make it an Outback adventure
Stay for the weekend and delve further into Australian history including an iconic Hotel Corones Tour and exploring Charleville’s WWII Secret Base or the Cosmos Centre.
