Moondarra Cruises Sets Sail In Mount Isa
Mount Isa has a new way to experience one of its most beautiful natural assets, with visitors now able to take to the water aboard an historic riverboat for spectacular Outback sunsets, unique wildlife spotting cruises and special celebrations.
The newly launched Moondarra Cruises is the first commercial tourism operator of its kind on Lake Moondarra, offering visitors a chance to experience the lake from a completely different perspective.
The venture is the result of two passionate Outback tourism advocates coming together to create something new for Mount Isa.
Mount Isa tourism operator Kylie Rixon began developing the idea earlier this year after recognising the potential to showcase Lake Moondarra through a dedicated tourism experience. Longreach tourism pioneer Richard Kinnon saw the opportunity and supported the venture by leasing The Thomson Princess riverboat to the new business.
The result is Moondarra Cruises – an experience designed to showcase the beauty, tranquillity and unique character of Lake Moondarra for visitors and locals alike.
From Dawn To Dusk
A highlight of the new venture will be the opportunity to take in a spectacular Outback Sunset from the deck of The Thomson Princess, offering stunning scenery of glassy waters and lake life at dusk.
Early risers and bird lovers can also take in a dawn birdwatching cruise, offering a unique perspective as the lake comes to life in the morning.
Experiences will run for approximately three hours, including bus transfers, with sessions priced at $149 for adults and $129 for concession holders and locals.
More Than A Cruise
Moondarra Cruises isn’t just about sightseeing. The riverboat is a unique venue on the water, with private cruises available for celebrations, corporate events and community gatherings.
Planning a Christmas party, special celebration or corporate event? Guests can enjoy the novelty of hosting an event on the lake, with tours including bus transfers to and from the experience so visitors can simply relax and enjoy the evening.
