Explore the accessible wild frontier in iconic Birdsville

Dive into the adventure-filled landscape of Outback Queensland, where every traveller is welcomed. From accessible wild frontier accommodation to exhilarating events and attractions, get set for an unforgettable experience.

At the end of the Birdsville Track lies Birdsville, a frontier town amidst wild desert landscapes. Once a notorious place through which cattle drovers moved their stock, Birdsville is a thriving community and the setting for some of Australia’s most iconic landmarks and events.

The Big Red Bash is Australia’s most remote festival venue, with its Simpson Desert location setting the scene for three amazing nights of music and entertainment that everyone’s invited to.

A dedicated accessible camping area, drop off point, parking and concert seating area is available for guests with accessibility requirements. Due to the terrain, some pathways are unsuitable for wheelchairs, but hard flooring will be in place between the accessible parking area and the allocated concert seating. Book and register for these facilities in advance (including free Companion Card tickets) and chat to the organisers about any particular needs before you go.

Birdsville Lodge accessible ramp

You can experience Birdsville’s famous sites and hospitality outside of festival times for a more laid-back adventure. The Birdsville Lodge has four accessible ensuite rooms with ramp access, along with a fully accessible communal kitchen.

The nearby Wirrarri Visitor Centre can be accessed by ramp so pop in for a friendly Outback yarn and check out the gallery. Don’t miss a visit to the legendary Birdsville Bakery for a taste of their famous curried camel pies, a hearty breakfast or other baked delights.

Head over the nearby Birdsville Hotel where you’re sure to find a local ready for a chat about the town and its characters. The Hotel has wheelchair access and bathroom, and accessible rooms if you want to stay and enjoy the town’s hospitality longer.
